Pride in Our Community: Cleaning One Home at a Time  …

is an outgrowth of Clean and Green’s Individual Assistance Program (IAP).  For the past six years Code Enforcement officers and other community non-profits have provided referrals to Clean and Green for individuals who have been cited for code violations and for reasons of age, economic means, or disability are unable to clean their properties themselves.  Following the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 Clean and Green helped 100 families removed 53 tons of overgrowth and debris.  Much debris still remains that requires heavier equipment to remove.

In 2007 Clean and Green received  IMPACT 100’s Environmental Focus Award.  The IMPACT monies  are to be used to purchase a bobcat, dump-trailer and a truck  to assist in the removal of damaged trees and limbs, hurricane debris,  damaged out buildings and fences and haul debris to the landfill.  The facts below outline our first homeowner assistance project completed by Clean and Green with the power of the IMPACT 100 grant.

The house at 519 B Street was owned by an individual who lost his home after the recent tornado.  City Code Enforcement requested our assistance when it was known that the owner was elderly, disabled, and not financially prepared to remove all the house debris from his property.  On Friday, January 18th, Waste Management delivered 3 roll offs for Clean & Green.  On Monday, January 21st, with Waste Management roll-offs and Superior Waste Company's donated heavy equipment and operator, the clean up began.  Within 4 hours, Tony Green, Jr., owner of Superior Waste, had the roll-offs filled!   Many thanks to Tony for the use of his equipment as Clean & Green is in the process of getting its own piece of heavy equipment, THANKS to IMPACT 100.  This will be the first of many homeowner assists for Clean & Green.
